Paul
Magersuppe
A gifted jazz saxophonist, Paul is both respected and admired by his fellow musicians.
He
also plays flute. At weddings, he often plays classical flute for the
ceremony followed by sax and flute with Ted's band for the reception.
Paul has played with Ted Knight and A Little Knight Music since the 1980s, but they also played together in the big band led by Ted's father, Vic Knight.
Ted
called on Paul to lead the band for his own daughter's wedding in Miami
Beach, at left.
Paul
has played with Ted's orchestra and big band at dates in Tampa and Key
West as well as many gigs closer to home. At right, the sax section at
Olympic Heights Theater in Boca Raton.
When
Ted decided to record his first album, one reason was to give Paul more
recognition.
He asked Paul to pick tunes he would enjoy playing. The songs he chose included neglected gems such as Alfie and Hello Young Lovers. The resulting album, Beautiful Love, was released in 2007.
A Florida native, Paul received his music degree from Florida State University in Tallahassee, and is the long-time band director at Palm Springs Middle School in Palm Beach County.
Hear samples of Paul Magersuppe's playing below. Most are studio demos with Ted's orchestra. Let's Get It On is with Ted's eight-piece orchestra at a wedding at the Sanibel Harbor Resort. The latter recording was engineered by Jean Bolduc, who also played drums on the date as well as on Beautiful Love.
