A sense of style
Ted Knight is a pianist, keyboard player and
vocalist with a repertoire covering a century of popular music. He inherited his love of big band music from
his bandleader father, Vic Knight, but like
many musicians who grew up in the 1960s, he also loves to rock.
With a thorough knowledge of musical styles, Ted knows how to move with
the mood of a party or wedding so that the sequence of songs always seems
just right.
Real instruments, real music
One reason Ted enjoys an excellent reputation
among musicians is that his bands use no recorded backgrounds. The best
players tell Ted
his all-natural style has become hard to find,
and how much they appreciate it. As a result, most of his key
performers have been with him for at least ten years, many for twenty years
or more.
Ted
led his first trio in 1974 while still in college. After graduation, he
began a career as a radio
announcer and program director while continuing to play with his bands.
Twenty years on the air helped to add thousands of songs to his repertoire.
Trained in the classics as well as jazz, he also formed a chamber music
group to play for wedding ceremonies. Ted also played with his
father's bands, and learned a lot in the process. In 1983 he started
offering mobile disc jockey services to complement his live music.
