A
terrifically talented jazz soloist, trumpet player David Gibble also knows
how to work within any band to bring out its best.
Dave
is pictured at left on fluegelhorn. This is a warmer version of the trumpet
that's often featured on ballads. However, it can be just as effective in a
groove, or on a bossa nova like the audio link below.
Ted Knight first heard Dave play when, as
leader, he played several solos in a concert with the Palm Beach
Community College jazz band. Ted loved what he heard, a rare
combination of fire and brilliance with intelligent control, and the two
have enjoyed working together ever since.
The solos
below were recorded in August 2006, with saxophonist
Paul Magersuppe (at right), Michael Burns on bass, Jean Bolduc on drums, and
Ted Knight at the piano.
