Rock
and roll
weddingTed Knight and the
Convertibles played old-time rock and roll for a summer wedding at the oceanfront
Delray Beach Club.
The bride danced with her father to his favorite song,
"Duke of Earl," and guests danced to "Twist and Shout," "La Bamba," and "Twistin'
the Night Away."
Guitarist George Garcia was
in fine form on "Johnny B. Goode," and Ted sang the Drifters' "Save the Last Dance for Me."
The dinner set featured sax solos by Paul Magersuppe on "Just the Two of Us"
and "Europa."
Country
club theme party
The band returned
to their rock and roll roots when they played at the Country Club of Florida in the Village of Golf,
about to break ground for a new clubhouse.
The usually conservative
club saw guests dressed in
T-shirts and jeans instead of jackets and ties, and decorations that included
two-by-fours and concrete blocks. The club manager greeted members with honorary
hard hats as the band played tunes like “Splish Splash” and "Rock Around the
Clock." The dinner set included softer tunes like "All I Have to Do Is Dream," and "Chances Are."

They say
it's your birthday
For a surprise 50th birthday
party at Royal Palm Yacht Club in Boca Raton, the band played reggae and jazz
for cocktails on the patio followed by party music for dinner and dancing
inside. Highlights included "Old Time Rock and Roll," "Money (That's What I
Want)", and the Beatles'
"Birthday." For a "This Is Your Life" video retrospective, Ted played
the soundtrack through his big sound system.

Ho ho ho
The
Convertibles
played for a combination Christmas boat parade and birthday party at a house on the Intracoastal Waterway in Delray Beach. The
guest of honor played air
guitar, matching licks with guitarist Harry James on tunes by the Beatles, the
Stones, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. “Feliz Navidad”
and “Jingle Bell Rock” provided a change of pace, and a sax solo on
“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” anchored a mellow dinner set.
