A family affair
The
wedding of Ted
Knight's daughter, Jennifer, at the
Sheraton
Bal
Harbour
in Miami Beach,
was scheduled for October 22, 2005,
the same day Hurricane Wilma threatened to come ashore. Some last-minute
scrambling moved the wedding to the 21st, and saved the day.
Arthur Abney's string trio
played for the wedding ceremony and for the cocktail hour that followed.
A
private family ceremony was held on the beach the night before. The bride was
barefoot, and very much in love with her new husband, Phillip, a lieutenant in
the US Navy.
Harpist Yumiko
Endo and cellist Oliver Schlaffer played
for a dinner held following the beach ceremony.
At
a reception the following night, Evelyn
Russell sang “At Last” for the bride and groom's first dance.
Tom Willis rocked the house with "All Right,
Okay, You Win," and later joined Evelyn for a smoldering version of "Let's
Get It On."
The band
was led by saxophonist Paul Magersuppe while Ted enjoyed his
role as father of the bride. He danced with his daughter to "Jennifer
Juniper," a Donovan number that he used to sing to her when she was a
little girl.
Later,
Ted joined the band to sing the song himself, which brought the bride and groom and their friends to
the floor for a kind of trippy hippie dance.
Ted
couldn't resist staying on to do "Jailhouse Rock,"
which packed the dance floor. Drummer Kevin Campfield sang Sinatra's "You Make Me Feel So
Young" and "Boogie Shoes" from KC and the Sunshine Band.
Tom Pizzi did a fine job on keyboard in Ted's place. It was Dave Gibble on
trumpet, Harry James on guitar, and Dave Wertman on bass.
Glen Rovinelli handled sound. Later,
Jen told her dad that her friends called it a great band and said they had a
lot of fun dancing.
